Credit card companies are getting some bad press recently, well more than that really, but because of the so-called credit crunch, they have been called loan sharks, crooks and even leeches.

The problem that the credit card companies have is that they are a business; it is just that their business is credit, which makes people think that they are like some of the names above.

However, the regulators in the US are looking to tighten up the rules that govern the way that credit card companies and other related businesses operate, by bringing in some new guidelines. Whether or not this is going to help those in debt is another matter.

The group added that agencies should go further than the current proposals, with moves such as:
Ending all retroactive interest-rate increases, including for consumers who have had a 30-day late payment

Limiting how high credit-card issuers can set “penalty” interest rates, and how long issuers can keep consumers at these rates

Prohibiting fees to pay a credit card by phone or Internet

BP has been marketing themselves as a green oil company, they have changed their logo to look like a flower and now they are investing into an eco fuel business named Verenium.

This is the first time that BP have actually become involved with green fuels, but they are not doing by halves the investment is said to be around £50 million, but Verenium are in the field of Cellulosic Ethanol, which can also be described as fuel from non food crops.

Verenium are ahead of the competition when it comes to this type of fuel, as they have produced it through genetic engineering, this means that they are able to use grass, wood chips, sugarcane, and other plant matter. These can then be further manipulated through a specialised enzyme, which speeds up the ethanol process.

However, there has been no mention as to what the cash will be used for and what BP’s involvement in the production of this fuel will be.

There are calls from the former Chairman of the US Federal Reserve, Alan Greenspan to work more with the banks in order to allow them to keep going.

Just leaving the banks to suffer in silence could be disastrous for the world economy. However, at the same time can governments actually afford to bail all of the banks out?

However, this sort of banking crisis is not something that occurs on a regular basis, it may only happens around once or twice every century, but to do nothing could mean financial insecurity for many people and even business that are relying on the services of the bank.

Two cases have been highlighted as examples, Northern Rock in the UK and Bear Stearns in the US, without the support of their governments, these banks would have collapsed taking many other businesses with them.

Friday the 13th October 1307 is supposed to be the origins of the unluckiest date, and there is good reason for it, because on this day an alliance between Pope Clement V and King Philip IV of France smashed the organisation known as the Knights Templar.

Many people will know of this because of the film “The Divinci Code” but what really happened is still clouded in secrecy, one thing is for sure, the Knights Templar was disbanded permanently!

Today the organisation exists in many countries, including the UK. However, their work is limited to charity and humanitarian work.

However, in Spain there is a legal case working its way through the courts. This will eventually bring the story in front of a worldwide audience. The Association of the Sovereign Order of the temple of Christ is demanding that the current Pope Benedict recognise what his predecessors did to the order over 700 years ago. They would also like to have their money back, all £80 billion!

It had to come sooner or later, the superstore, which wants to provide everything that their customers need is now going into the banking industry.

The thought of all of those customers going through their stores, but still using outside facilities for other services is just getting too much for the management of Tesco’s.

So instead of just starting from scratch Tesco will be buying the fifty per cent stake, which the Royal Bank of Scotland owns in Tesco Personal Finance, this will bring the business back into the business where they will be able to develop the services provided including current and deposit accounts.

One day Tesco’s will be the only place needed for everything, if that is what you want!

There may be a lot of doom and gloom out there at the moment, but there is no need to let it grind you down, after all things will pick up eventually and you need to be ready for the big rush again.

Therefore, in the mean time there some things that you do to either getaway from the crunch credit or just simply take some time to prepare your life for the next big push, which is not going to be that far away.

Here are some things that you may wish to consider:

Buy repossessions and invest in real estate
Invest in green technology
Start a company
Switch careers
Move somewhere you’ve always wanted to
Learn
Go on holiday!
Get your voice out there
Break bad habits & modify your lifestyle

For anyone who is unlucky enough to lose their job or those that find themselves in the situation where they are unable to work through illness. It has been estimated that over thirty per cent would only be able to survive financially for just eleven days.

This terrible thought just highlights the delicate line that people walk between being ok and going under if the, worst happens. This is because a lit of people are spending their incomes right up to the limit, with no room for mistakes.

Financial disaster can happen through job loss, cut in pay or hours, illness and rising costs. On average households are spending around £333 on essentials such as finance payments, council tax, and luxury items. This leaves around 34% of the population with less than £500 in savings, which is where the eleven days come into play.
